Learning how to make Sympathy Flower Arrangements like a florist would make it takes time, patience and practice. A person may be artistic, but the techniques are what keep arrangements from falling apart, especially sympathy sprays. You do not want to get half way through a funeral and have flowers fall out of the spray you made.

There are two types of sympathy arrangements. One is a basket style, which sits in a container that can be set on a shelf or on the floor. The second style is called a standing spray. The spray is set on a stand with three legs and can get quite showy in their design. Both arrangements are made one sided as no one sees the backs of these when they are in the front of the funeral home by the casket.

To make a spray you would start with the stand and place a block of oasis on the hook. The oasis is full of water and will keep the flowers fresh for the service. There are two schools of thought on which are the next steps from here. One recommends you cover the oasis with your greens like leather, and the other technique is to add your flowers first then add the greens. I prefer adding the greens first, as then I am less likely to break the flowers when I add them. If you were using palm greens in the back, this would also be a good time to add them.Next come the flowers. I prefer to add from the back and move forward, placing my tallest flowers like gladiolas in the back. Make sure you use a sharp knife and cut your flower on an angle. Do not use scissors as they crimp the flower stem keeping it from being able to drink. Also before you stab the oasis with the stem, make sure you know where you want to place it. If you stick the stem in and them change your mind too often, it will crumble and your arrangement will fall to pieces.

Flowers are added all the way around the oasis in a spray, like in a circle. Though the oasis is a rectangle, a good designer can end up with a round spray by the way he or she cuts the flowers. More common are the oval sprays. The less you cut from the stem, the longer the flower will be when you add it. Use as much of the stem as you can. It gives the affect of being larger and worth more money, even though you did not do anything extra.

So after adding the flowers in the back, just keep trimming the ones you want in your arrangement and add them coming forward. Think of stairs, the back would be the tallest stair and the front flowers would be the bottom of the stairs, and the shortest. When you think you are done, look all the way around and see if there are any holes that need to be filled with another flower.

The basket sympathy arrangement is constructed in much the same way except for the oasis. When placing it in the container, you want it to be so snug that it cannot rock. Sometimes it is wise to add wedges of oasis on the sides to keep it from rocking. If it is able to rock, with the tall flowers in the back it can fall right out of the container, so this is a critical step.

Once you get the mechanics down, you can have a lot of fun making floral arrangements. Using the freshest flowers you can purchase will make your arrangements last longer. In addition, always remember to add water to it before it goes out the door.

Whether you have a garden to tend to or simply need to maintain your lawn, shrubs or even potted plants, composting may be just what you need. Here are some things to know to help you to get started.

You may choose to carefully maintain compost in a bin made and sold for that purpose or simply have a freestanding pile. Either way, location is important. Besides the smell, which can be minimized, your compost is likely to draw bugs. Limit a freestanding pile to 3 cubic feet. Remember, too, that the sun can dry out your pile so you’ll have to water it more.

Because bacteria breaks down more readily when an ideal balance of carbon and nitrogen is reached, use a mix of h half waster from your yard and half from your home. Most of everything leftover in your yard after maintenance is fine form composting. However, cut them up to speed up the decomposition process. Leaves and grass are great, but steer clear of plants with thorns, as these take longer to break down.

From your home, the best place to collect is in the kitchen. Coffee grounds, bread, fruit and vegetable peelings are excellent. These things tend to stink and make the process unappealing.

Shredded paper, from newspaper to coffee filters and tea bags-provide nice filler. When it comes to manure, use only cow, horse, and chicken manure, never that of any meat-eating animals (your dog has to sit out of this project).

Although your pile will eventually decompose if left alone, mixing and watering will speed up the process. Keep the pieces in your pile small and turn them often (a pitchfork will be helpful here). Layers of a couple inches of yard and kitchen waste will maintain the balance you need. Add water if you need to do so, but you don’t want to soak it. You may need to add more yard waste rich in carbon to eliminate any stench.

You’ll be at it for a few months, but eventually the garbage you’ve been working with will become black and nutrient rich – “soil” that you’ll need.

They can add to the backyard decor, and they also serve a useful function for backyard gardeners, or any homeowner. There are several reasons that you should think about putting a shed in your backyard. Once you determine your needs for a shed, then you’ll be able to decide the best location and size for your garden shed.

Why would you need to put a shed in your back yard? Well, first and foremost, if you are serious about keeping up your lawn and your garden, you’ve probably invested a lot of money in tools and equipment. You certainly don’t want to leave your lawnmower, and all your gardening tools out in the weather to rust. You could keep some of your equipment in your basement, and some in your garage, but it’s often better to keep everything in one place. That is where a garden shed comes in. It keeps your yard and garden tools all in one convenient location.

Let’s assume that you have plenty of room in your garage for all of your equipment. It still makes sense to build a garden shed. You’ll still want a convenient place to keep gardening supplies, like seed, soil, weed killers, pesticides, etc. You could keep those in your garage as well, but isn’t the garage usually pretty accessible? If you have children, you would want to keep those garden chemicals away from them. A shed is much easier to secure than your garage. With a large enough shed, you can also add a potting bench, so that you can use the shed for repotting your plants, and putting together container gardens.

Once you decide what the shed is to be used for, you can decide where to put it. If you plan to use the shed just for storage, then it makes sense to put it in a convenient location. If you’re storing lawn tools, you’ll want to put the shed where it is easily accessible from both your front yard and your back yard. If you’re using the shed for gardening tools, then place it where it is convenient to your garden.

When you select a location for your shed, you may also want to take into consideration whether you want the shed to be tucked away in a corner, or use it as part of the decor. There may be a convenient corner of the yard that is out of the way, behind a tree or shrubs, so that the shed will be at least partially hidden. If you want to use your shed as part of the decor of your back yard and garden, you can always put it where it is highly visible. You can surround it with flowers and planters to make it part of your backyard decor.

If you are like most homeowners, a garden shed can be a valuable asset in helping to keep all of your lawn and garden equipment in one convenient location. Look around your backyard, and consider your needs and wants. Decide what your shed is to be used for, and decide on your location. Once you know what you want, and where you want it, you can find plans online to help you build your wooden garden shed, and take one more step towards turning your backyard into a relaxing oasis.

Moving can be a pain in the neck. But sometimes, due to economic circumstances, you might not have a choice. Your landlord might have just increased your rent, or your spouse may have been made redundant. It does not have to be an economic reason to have to move. Your child may be going to a different school, and it’s more convenient to live in another area of town, where the school is nearer. Whatever your situation, you want to make the necessary preparation before the moving day arrives.

If you live in Phoenix or areas nearby, start your preparation by making some phone calls and Internet searches for Phoenix moving supplies. You might just be lucky enough to have a moving kit delivered right to your doorstep.

Moving kits are a good idea. A typical kit contains all the basic stuff you need – boxes (about 50 or so, in a range of sizes), bubble wraps, stretch wraps, packing papers, mattress covers, moving blankets, markers, tapes, and everything else in between to fulfil your moving requirement. This way, you need not look around for the items separately, because all the supplies that you’d need will be in the kit. Not only will you be saving a lot of time, but you are likely to be saving money as well. If bought separately, the price per item tend to be more costly.

If you want to save even more, it is worth enquiring about used boxes. Some online shops supply these too. Rest assured, only good, undamaged boxes will be sold the second time around. However, there are likely to be markings on them, depicting information on what they used to contain. Just paste a label across the markings, and you should be okay. Your move will still be a lot of work, but with the right supplies available, it might just not be as bad as you’d think.

It seems as though each plant is more lovely and appealing than the nest, and who doesn’t want to learn tips that can help them when they are preparing to create a wonderful garden and update their yard’s visual appearance. You should keep in mind that drought tolerant species will save you money and are an inexpensive way to make your garden bright and beautiful.

The surprising thing about many drought tolerant plants is that they are often overlooked in favor of more temperamental species that require lots of water and attention. Some people even have the mistaken notion that these plants are only for arid, dry regions of the country such as the Arizona desert. When you are searching for an easy way to save money in your garden you need to remember that drought resistant varieties of many plants can be your best solution. Not only can they survive on minuscule amounts of water once they have become established these hardy little plants can hold their own even when the sun punishes them for days on end.

With drought tolerant garden plants, you can forget daily watering chores. Another good feature that these types of plants have in common is their ability to grow in poor or rocky soils. There are, in fact, some drought resistant plants that are known for their ability to handle neglect, punishing sunlight, hot temperatures and almost no water. This means that even those gardeners that lack the green thumb gene can have a successful, bountiful and productive garden.Consider coneflower species whenever you want plants that thrive in conditions that require only the lightest watering. These hardy flowers are almost indestructible and their blooms come in many different colors and shapes. They can handle the driest weather conditions and once established they will self-seed with vigor, which means you save money again. You can find them in a rainbow of colors from white and moonbeam yellow to hot pinks and deep purples.

Ornamental grasses are another plant species that can tough it out through long droughts without succumbing to dry conditions and high heat. You may be fascinated with the feathery plumes of Pampas grass, but Flame Grass and Maiden Grass will also add interest and beauty to your landscape and garden while needing only a bare minimum of water and maintenance.

Few flowering species are as tolerant and forgiving as day lilies and they are a good buy at almost any time of year. There are hundreds of varieties of these wonderful blossoming plants and all of them can hold up to dry conditions while still providing you with tons of blooms during the growing season.

Phlox is another superb choice when you are searching for hardy, inexpensive plants. Try blue phlox if you want a drought tolerant selection with outstanding color and beauty. Creeping phlox is also very easy to grow and requires almost no water and maintenance. With white, purple and pink shades to choose from creeping phlox is a delightful drought tolerant ground cover to use in rock gardens or as a border.
