Plant Life
Add some pond plants or flowers. Of course, there’s no need to fill the whole pond with plant life and it is important to keep it under control, but adding foliage to the pond will give it a lovely natural look. You could try some pond lilies for a traditional style – these also produce big beautiful flowers which will add a splash of colour. If you have fish in your pond, they will welcome the shelter provided by the leaves.
Decorate
Why not add a water feature or fountain to your pond? Pond water features, such as this cute Mandarin Duck water feature, can add a fun touch, while fountains, particularly ones with LEDs or multi-coloured lights, will dazzle all who see them. The flow of the water will help to prevent it becoming stagnant as well as produce a gentle, soothing sound, helping you to relax. Continue reading →
There is nothing better than hiring a lawn care company to maintain your lush green lawn when you simply don’t have the time or the desire to do so. However, when times get tight you may find it necessary to find ways to save on your lawn care costs. When this happens, how do you reduce the cost without reducing the quality of your lawn?
Short of doing the lawn yourself, there are several ways in which you can reduce your lawn care costs and still maintain a great looking lawn. Here are some ways to save on your lawn care expenses:
Reduce Your Lawn Service frequency: Many lawn care services will come out on a rather frequent basis especially when the weather is warm and the grass is growing on a regular basis. The problem is that many of these lawn services also charge you every time they come out. The only way this is not costing you money is if they have you on a monthly plan. Either way you can save on lawn care by scaling back the number of times that the lawn service comes out to your home. Instead of as frequently as needed, just have them come out once per month. This will require you maintaining your lawn for the rest of the month, but at least once a month you will be having a pro do it for you. Continue reading →
When planning to shop lawn mowers for a new unit to care for your yard, there are several factors to evaluate that will help you select a model that you will be quite happy with. The first factor involves your commitment to yard work and maintenance. Do you enjoy working outdoors? Will you have the commitment to change the air filter and oil, keep the blades sharp, hose off the unit regularly, and do all the things required to keep lawn mowers running at peak performance? If so, proceed! The second issue concerns you fitness. Are you in good health? If so, push lawn mowers should be considered since they offer a good opportunity for exercise. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns. This is especially true if you yard is less than ½ acre. Above that, a riding mower may be more practical.
The next issue in shopping for lawn mowers concerns the size of your yard. Big yards will get done more often if you know you’ve got a riding mower waiting your grass cutting session. Today’s riding lawn mowers feature very comfy seats, a drink holder, and some are equipped with a mount for an umbrella! Put on the head phones, grab a cold beverage, and an hour or two on a riding mower can be something you’ll look forward to all week! If you have a large yard, and your budget allows, you might want to buy two lawn mowers – a riding unit for the bulk of the work, and a trim mower to go around trees and other obstacles. That way, you’ll get some exercise and have a fantastic looking patch of green! An in-between option when looking at lawn mowers might be a self-propelled walk behind model. These lawn mowers give you exercise, since you are walking and turning the unit, but don’t require constant pushing. These are especially nice if there is some slope in your yard, since pushing up hill is tough. The gear will also prevent them from going too fast downhill. Continue reading →
